We have a vital, fun and interesting 4-week Super Socialisation Course starting soon. It’s a Socialisation and Puppy Tips course designed especially for your very young puppy and you, their proud new owner.
The four session course runs at 6.30pm - 7.20pm on Tuesday evenings at Oliver Bird Hall, near Touchwood in Solihull. The venue is a clinically clean place. The next course starts on Tuesday, October 12th - book your place here.
These fun Super Socialisation Sessions get your new puppy aged 9 weeks to 14 weeks (at the time of starting the course) ready for the big wide world! Your new puppy will get introduced to other pups, new people and interesting things in a fun but well-managed course designed and delivered by a behaviourist and dog training team.
The course is designed for puppies who have had their first vaccination a week or more before. This Super Socialisation course is Covid-19 compliant, with limited places available, so you get lots of personal advice and attention, as well as receiving written tips and lots of video clips to remind and help you practise after each session.
To book, please transfer £85 (apply a discount of £10 if you've had a Puppy Power session or package) to Animal Kind Dog Training:

Sessions are relaxed and fun teaching you all the Puppy Tips you need for the early days, including advice and practical guidance on crate training, housetraining (toilet training), what to feed, what foods to avoid, what equipment to buy and much more.
Socialisation techniques are shown to set you and your puppy up for a lifetime of success, which we do by introducing your puppy to a range of play buddies. There are only a small number of pups in a session, so the puppies are closely monitored and you are guided so no puppy gets bullied, and every puppy finishes the course more confident than when he or she started. The course was designed by our in-house behaviourist and dog training team to give age appropriate social and obedience learning.
The Socialisation Period, or Socialisation Window, is the sensitive period window when your pup can get used to anything - with the right help and guidance. There are lots of socialisation exercises, including with costumes, recorded loud noises, vacuum cleaners, scooters, and other unusual items which dogs of this age can get used to. And you will also learn about their upbringing and training.
You get lots of one-to-one tuition from Chris and Helen, which is tailor made for you and your pup. Animal Kind set up its Dog Training School in 2012. Chris is an accredited Dog Training Instructor with the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, has a Masters degree in Animal Behaviour, and is a provisional member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and Fellowship of Animal Behaviour Clinicians. Helen is a student member of the IMDT and has an OCN qualification in Canine Behaviour.

About the background to the course
For health and safety reasons your dog can only attend 7 full days (or more) after pup’s first vaccination, which means he or she can usually start our course at 9 weeks of age. Older puppies, aged up to 14 weeks at the time of starting the course, can also attend and are very welcome.
Socialisation is the process of making your dog a lifelong optimist about new people, new dogs and new things – and it’s vital if you want to enjoy a happy life together where you can take your dog anywhere and everywhere. Once you’ve completed our Super Socialisation Course, Animal Kind Dog Training runs several follow-on courses as your pup gets older, called Young Pups, Tween Pups and Junior Rehab, Teenage Pups, Top Dogs, and Out and About to set you and your dog up for an outgoing, positive and rewarding life together.
The Socialisation Window is by far the best time to make your dog into a lifelong optimist, but for most breeds that window shuts forever between 14 - 16 weeks of age. The Socialisation Window doesn’t reopen. If you do not take advantage of this one-off opportunity, the chances of your dog becoming nervous and nervously aggressive (the most common cause of dog-to-dog and dog to human aggression) are massively increased, though these problems may only rear their head once the dog enters adolescence or adulthood.
Even if a big chunk of the Socialisation Window may have been missed for a variety of reasons, it’s important to do as much as you can to enable them to catch-up. We strongly recommend you collect your puppy from the breeders as early as possible, which is, legally, at 8 weeks of age. The longer you leave it, the less likely your dog is to fulfil pup’s social potential, even if there are lots of dogs and people in the breeders’ house.
